Suikoden: Earth and Sea

Story:

The two neighboring countries Voletre and Maguare have been locked in war for years now. What turned into minor scuffles for resources on the border has escalated into full-out invasions. Entire towns ravaged and lives destroyed from this war that doesn't seem even close to ending. Recently, Maguare has invaded and captured Ilvan, the town right next to Voletre's capital, Sinden. Rumor has it that Maguare is planning an attack on Sinden next, and so panic is spreading and people are preparing to evacuate for the inevitable. An intense war is about to start, and you're in the middle of it.

Bam. For some reason it doesn't include humans, but they exist too, obviously. Note that the character you create can only be human.

Technology:

The technology in the world isn't too advanced. It has things such as ballistae and cannons, and more primitive forms of rifles, but nothing further than that.

Runes:

Runes are like the magic of the world. They house all the basic elements such as fire, water, wind, earth, and lightning, as well as various other unique runes. You can get one imprinted on either your left hand, right hand, or your forehead; each one taking up a slot, with a maximum of 3. You can start with one of the 5 elements or any other common Rune if you want.

History: Leon has lived a normal life, for the most part. He's lived in the woods north of Sinden his whole life with his father, whom taught him basic fighting skills. However, his father has fallen ill lately and Leon is forced to make the trip to Sinden in order to get him some medicine. Despite all the rumors of invading forces, saving his father's life comes before all else. He is very worried, however, and very confused about the outside world.

History: Minerva was born in the Capital of Maguare. After receiving excellent grades in school, she was excepted into the military training academy at age 13, where she excellent in courses like strategy while nearly unable to complete physical courses. Showing much promise, she was promoted to the rank of captain and title of tactician at age 15. Today, she is one of Maguare's top young Strategists.

History: Mars was born on a small farm way outside of the Capital of Maguare. When he was 15, his parents manged to scrap together enough money to send him to Military Training Academy. After 3 years, he completed training. He rose quickly though the ranks to First Lieutenant. 1 years ago, he was assigned to become bodyguard to tactician Minerva Auenes.

History: Not much is known of Legel's past. He has no parents he can remember, has had a Fire Rune since he was very little, and was a wandering orphan until he was taken in(by force) by a very rich noble family in Maguare. The couple made him work day and night, turning him into what was basically a slave, until his anger led him to accidentally destroy a section of their manor with his Rune, at the age of 9. The heartless nobleman was infuriated, and confronted his "son", attempting to kill him, but Legel's own rage was far greater. He murdered the nobleman, and afterwards any guards that stood in his way as he fled the manor. He joined the military academy, and has at his current age reached the rank of General, but never really communicates unless strictly necessary, and is to this day as cold as ice. He's currently in Ilvan recruiting warriors for a rebelious force.

History: Allina is the daughter of one of the richest families of Voletre, her father being one of, if not the most famous musician (a pianist) of the moment. A year or two ago, her older brother and best friend fled from home after fighting with their parents, and though she confronted him as he was leaving, she couldn't stop him, and that haunts her life. She had always had her mind set on stopping the constant conflicts between countries, but has, since that night, started viewing the future in a more realistic manner, though still very positive. For this reason, she pledged allegiance to her country as a talented medic, focusing on helping those in need as much as possible with her Rune, sometimes even those from opposing nations.
